During the summer, the lack of proper supply and exhaust ventilation leads to a rapid increase in temperature and extreme humidity levels inside.
Concrete structures, which still retained coolness in the spring, warm up by mid-June. When dozens of people are simultaneously in a confined space, the natural heat dissipation of bodies combined with breathing creates a greenhouse effect. Under such conditions, even a few hours of waiting become a serious test for the body, and maintaining basic cleanliness becomes objectively difficult. However, it is precisely the inability to adhere to sanitary standards that has delayed but extremely negative consequences for health.
According to public health experts, prolonged stays in such conditions without free access to clean water create an invisible but very real threat to the epidemiological stability of communities. People often do not have the opportunity to wash their hands after contact with contaminated surfaces, treat minor scratches, or provide proper care for small children. The heat acts as a catalyst, turning ordinary household discomfort into a direct risk factor for the spread of infections.
Clean Water Shortage
Limited supplies of drinking water are quickly depleted or heat up, losing their suitability. Technical water for handwashing is often absent, making basic cleaning impossible.
Risk of Skin Infections
High humidity, sweat, and the inability to cleanse the skin provoke dermatitis and exacerbate allergies. Infants and the elderly are the most vulnerable to these manifestations.

Solving the sanitation problem in existing shelters requires a comprehensive approach, where preventive provision of materials plays a key role. Since it is technically impossible to quickly modernize ventilation systems or install plumbing in every basement, the focus shifts to individual and collective hygiene products that work autonomously and do not require large amounts of water to use.
This involves forming specialized kits that include antiseptics, large wet wipes, dry showers activated by a few drops of liquid, and sturdy bags for safe waste collection. The availability of such products directly in the shelter allows for maintaining the cleanliness of the body and surfaces even during prolonged isolation. However, not everyone can provide themselves with such kits independently, especially when it comes to vulnerable categories of the population in de-occupied communities, where the economic situation remains difficult.

Logistics routes are planned taking into account the frequency of shelter use, their capacity, and their distance from central communications. This avoids both acute shortages at critical moments and the irrational accumulation of materials that have specific shelf lives under high-temperature conditions. Well-structured logistics turn into an effective tool for protecting public health.
A community's ability to withstand summer challenges depends directly on the level of preparation of the premises. Organizing sanitary zones, installing portable bio-toilets where space permits, and creating untouchable water reserves require constant attention and resources. Providing people with portable cleaning products remains the fastest and most rational step to maintain a safe environment.
